Business locations: The Canton of Solothurn has industrial sites like no other in Switzerland. And they’re all looking ahead to a bright future. The great potential for new, forward-looking uses is being tapped as we speak.
A total of 250,000 m2 of industrial space is ready for immediate use. Many of the existing structures can be used and adapted straight away. Where necessary, new customer-specific construction will be carried out. With its background in paper production, the site is unmatched in terms of connections for electricity and water.
The former Metalli site will offer new space for living and working over the next few years. Several tens of thousands of square metres of indoor and outdoor space are immediately available for interim use. Development for long-term use, including construction work, is due to begin in 2025.
This site of approximately 350,000 square metres impresses with its immediate proximity to the Aarepark and its prime industrial land. Around a quarter of the site is still available in different parcels. Construction height up to 40 metres and few restrictions. The Biogen company, with the world’s most modern production plant for biosimilars, is in the immediate vicinity.
Approximately 300,000 square metres located directly on the river Aare are ready for repurposing. A new district of Riedholz, with restaurants, small businesses, hotels, coworking and around 1,200 residential units, is to be built gradually through 2040. Located on the river Aare, where a multitude of options will be available.
This tradition-rich area with its distinctive buildings will be developed from a purely commercial and industrial area to a mixed-use area with residential, work and leisure uses. Interim use with rented spaces over roughly 200,000 square metres is gradually being transitioned to modern standards.
The history of Riverside in Zuchwil goes way back. Among other things, this is where Sulzer Textil produced the large looms for the world market. Parts of the area have been cleverly converted into state-of-the-art housing units – The Riverside of Life – thanks to a location unlike any other in Switzerland. The expansive site also has spaces of all kinds available for rent.
The Bahnhof Nord site is previously untapped urban land that will shape the identity of Olten in the future. This development will have a great impact on the name recognition and thus the attractiveness of the city of Olten. The first stage already encompasses 25,000 square metres of floor space for offices, nursery, restaurant, day clinic, residences, etc. Further stages will follow.
