Riverside generational project: A former industrial and production site becomes a working and living space

The history of the Riverside site in Zuchwil is long and profoundly industrial. Today, the area is one of the most modern places to live and home to companies such as Schaerer coffee machines, Helion Solar, Itema and many more.

The history of Riverside in Zuchwil goes way back. It is a story characterised by entrepreneurship, regional focus and politics. It goes without saying that the area has a very different meaning for people of different generations. And these factors have been constants throughout the history of the area. The Riverside site is in many ways a project of many generations.

History

Before and after the Second World War, a wide variety of manufacturers operated at the site – from watchmaking and Moderna cartridges to machine tools. In 1949, the machinery company Sulzer AG took over the properties and expanded its production capacities. As a result, more than 2,000 jobs were created at the site. After various takeovers and spin-offs, the former Sulzer AG began producing under the name Sultex from 2003 onwards at the current Riverside site.

Development

The more experienced generations know the Riverside area as an industrial and manufacturing site. Future generations will know it as a place to live and work with a high quality of life. A neighbourhood is taking shape that will serve as a lighthouse project far beyond the Canton of Solothurn for its winning combination of residential and working life.
